The legacy of creatives.

Human centred research is the starting point to every Déanta Studio initiative. Identifying problems and creating solutions can only be done through direct interactions with creatives. Whilst generating collective initiatives is important, the lives of the individual people who contribute to creative industries should be highlighted. Their stories provided to us from years of research shouldn’t be left to gather dust. Their messages for a better world should be given exposure to reach further audiences.

Creatives impact on the green transition is executed through meaningful connections with climate experts, community groups and the general public. Creatives new perspectives improve audiences understanding of climate change thus increasing a sense of agency. More than making a living.

Considering the challenges that are encountered in today’s craft sector, the motives that drive provenancial craftspeople stretch well beyond making a living. For them it is a matter of preserving physical and intangible heritage, dedicating their lifestyles to understanding their localities and running inclusive community clubs. Each craftsperson has a personal philosophy that inspires a more conscious way of examining our life choices, including developing a more intimate understanding of consumer products.

A turning point for revival.

36 years ago the documentary series HANDS was made by David and Sally Smith due to a sense of urgency to record crafts in their natural surroundings before they disappeared completely. Today in 2025, where the industry has been greatly damaged by outsourcing, time is at a unique point where the start of its revival may commence. Plans for policy change are being implemented combined with new modern tech advancements, opening an opportunity to document craft’s adoption to tech.
